Proposal B

Modern Rebrand

A contemporary design system for the next decade
Brand Proposal • 2026

This proposal makes a significant visual departure while remaining grounded in OSGeo's mission. The palette shifts from muted teal-greens to a vibrant, high-contrast system inspired by modern developer tools and tech brands. Dark mode becomes a first-class citizen. The overall feel moves from "institutional" to "platform".

What changes: All-new typography (Space Grotesk + DM Sans), brighter green, slate-based dark tones replacing teal, new ocean blue accent, dark-mode-first aesthetic, squared-off badges, modern card borders.
What stays: The compass rose logo, green as the primary accent, the concept of nature-inspired gradients.
Logo evolution suggestion: Simplify the compass needle to cleaner geometric lines. Consider a monochrome version (single green or single white) for dark UI contexts. Explore a wordmark in Space Grotesk to complement the emblem when used side-by-side.

Why these fonts: Space Grotesk has a technical, slightly retro-futuristic quality that nods to geospatial science while feeling contemporary. DM Sans is clean and highly legible at all sizes, with a geometric structure that pairs perfectly. Both are open-source.
