Proposal E

Vibrant

Loud, energetic, unapologetically colorful
Brand Proposal • 2026

This proposal asks: what if OSGeo felt like a festival? The palette draws from conference lanyards, event posters, and the energy of a packed FOSS4G keynote hall. Hot pink, electric violet, neon cyan, and sunny yellow collide to create a brand that is impossible to ignore.

This isn't subtle. It's designed for an organization that wants to attract new contributors, excite students, and stand out in a sea of corporate blue-and-grey tech brands.

The vibe

Think FOSS4G after-party. Think the moment a student first sees their data rendered on a map. Think open source community at its most joyful and welcoming. Every color says "come join us" -- nothing says "enterprise compliance dashboard".

What changes: Everything about the color palette. Hot pink replaces green as primary. Deep purple replaces teal as dark base. Electric cyan, sunny yellow, and neon green as accent riot. Typography shifts to Bricolage Grotesque (playful display) + Nunito (friendly body). Pill-shaped buttons. Maximum radius on everything.
What stays: The compass rose logo, white backgrounds for content, professional information hierarchy.
Logo evolution suggestion: Keep the compass but consider a version where the green quadrants become hot pink and the teal quadrants become deep violet. For event materials, the logo could sit on a gradient background swatch. The wordmark could be set in Bricolage Grotesque Bold for a friendlier feel.

Why these fonts: Bricolage Grotesque has quirky, slightly irregular letterforms that feel handcrafted and approachable -- the opposite of corporate sans-serifs. Nunito is round and warm, one of the friendliest body typefaces available. Together they say "this is a community you want to be part of." Both are open-source Google Fonts.
