Creating a Welcoming Community

Guidelines

OSGeo Community Guidelines

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices.

We do not tolerate harassment of community members in any form. This code of conduct applies to all OSGeo community spaces, including mailing lists, wikis, social media, conferences, and any other OSGeo-sponsored events or gatherings.

Expected Behavior

Community members are expected to:

  • Be welcoming - Use inclusive language and be considerate of others
  • Be respectful - Disagreement is fine, but respect other viewpoints
  • Be collaborative - Work together for the benefit of the community
  • Be patient - Remember that everyone was once a beginner
  • Be mindful - Think about how your words and actions affect others
  • Be constructive - Provide helpful feedback and suggestions
Prohibited

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable:

  • Violent threats or language directed against another person
  • Discriminatory jokes and language
  • Posting sexually explicit or violent material
  • Posting (or threatening to post) other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”)
  • Personal insults, particularly those using racist or sexist terms
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior
  • Repeated harassment of others
Action

Enforcement

Community members asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a community member engages in harassing behavior, OSGeo may take any action deemed appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from OSGeo-controlled spaces.

Report

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the OSGeo Board:

All reports will be treated confidentially.
